About me

My name is Patrik, and I am a landscape photographer from Slovenia.

Beginning in high school

My journey into photography began early in high school. I was in a school of media and graphics. I got really interested in everything printing-related and also photography and videography. I got my first compact camera in my third year of school. That camera was a Canon PowerShot A620 which I still own to this day. I quickly fell in love with photography, but back then, my style was mostly abstract. I took photographs of objects that many wouldn’t consider and I had to tell people what is on the picture. I loved to play with different lighting and shadows. In high school, I received some awards for photography, which was really great. I got a DSLR at the end of high school, which was a new journey for me.

Multimedia College

I went into college for multimedia in search of new knowledge. I was really looking forward learning about studio photograph which unfortunately didn’t happen. In those years, I continued taking photographs and I photographed many events for my personal blog.

Work outside photography

My first working internship at the end of high school was at a t-shirt screen printing and newspaper printing company. This is where I learned the most about the whole process of screen printing. Then my paid job during first year of college was working in prepress, editing photographs for magazines in Photoshop. It was a great experience working in prepress and seeing my edited photographs in magazines. I got my first seasonal job at the end of college in a screen printing company. There I worked as a screen printer. I printed on many promotional products, including mugs, umbrellas, t-shirts and more. It was a great experience working as a screen printer and I learned many new things. After these jobs, I became self-employed. I was creating websites and started designing online for Print on Demand stores.

Hacking of my blog

As I was learning about building websites when I was still in high school, I started working on my own websites almost as soon as I started taking photographs. My first websites were simple and I had just a simple gallery on them. I was changing designs of those websites yearly as I liked tinkering with websites. I even created my college diploma about the process of creating the website. My websites were slowly getting better and more feature rich as I started using WordPress and started a blog. During these years, I was posting on my blog about all things photography and events and concerts I attended. I had a steady growth of organic traffic and I loved taking photographs and uploading them to my blog when I saw that people liked my work. Unfortunately, after a few years down the road, someone hacked my blog and deleted everything. I lost all my work. As I was still a novice in WordPress, I unfortunately didn’t follow any security protocols and I couldn’t restore it. I lost something I loved and worked hard for.

Pause from photography

After college and losing the blog, I lost my passion for photography and I kinda stopped taking photographs. I still carried my DSLR with me, but I mostly took photos just for myself. I stopped photographing events and concerts as I saw no point anymore.

My first online store

As I had a lot of photographs in my library I opened Print on Demand stores and tried selling them online. At first, I opened stores on Fineartamerica, Redbubble and Society6. And through some magic, I actually sold some prints and products with my photographs. This was a wonderful feeling and I expanded my horizon with Zazzle and miPic stores. Now I am mostly focusing on Zazzle store where you can also find some of my designs and most of my work can be customized with personal monograms.

Journey to landscape photography – reigniting my passion

In high school, I dislocated my patella and I had constant knee pain for almost 10 years. This made me even more sedentary. In my 20s, I had a lot of troubles with sleeping and my lower back. All of this accumulated and when I was 27, my heart started beating irregularly and crazily. It was a horrible experience. I went to the emergency room and they sent me straight to the hospital. I had my first atrial fibrillation. Luckily, my heart jumped back into rhythm after 12 hours of IV. This gave me a kick in the butt and I literally changed my life around. I started exercising, walking and hiking with my girlfriend. We started exploring our stunning country of Slovenia and seeing all those stunning sceneries reignited my passion for photography. I fell in love with landscape photography. Check out my gallery to see landscapes of Slovenia and surronding countries through my lens.

Life outside photography

I can say that I am lucky I found my soul mate in high school and we are still happily together. We do everything together and even our journey in Print on Demand stores started as a couple. We have our brand, PLdesign, which you are welcome to check and see what we create together. In recent years, I got really into working out and living healthily. My favorite piece of equipment is gymnastics rings and most of what I do is calisthenics.

Travelling around Slovenia and neighbouring countries

My girlfriend and I bought a small van, a Renault Kangoo and we converted it into a mini camper with a collapsible bed. It is an awesome way to experience nature and wake up in stunning locations every day. It allowed us to explore all the stunning and vast landscapes of Slovenia and neighboring countries. We saw many waterfalls, hiked on a lot of mountains and witnessed countless sunsets and sunrises.

Thank you for reading and visiting my website. Hope you enjoy my work and my photographs.

Best,
Patrik Lovrin
